The Spurs had interest in Lauri Markkanen in restricted free agency among other targets this past summer, according to Zach Lowe of ESPN.com.
They sniffed around intriguing young free agents — including Lauri Markkanen and John Collins, sources said — but snared neither.
Markkanen eventually joined the Cavaliers as a part of a three-team, sign-and-trade.
Markkanen has been the subject of trade rumors dating back to the beginning of last season when he and the Bulls couldn’t agree to an extension.
The Mavs, Blazers, and Pelicans were among the other teams linked to the power forward.
