Sixers Notes: Iverson, Simmons, Morey, Lillard, Adam Sandler

In order to pass time during the offseason, Ky Carlin of Sixers Wire recently looked back on Allen Iverson‘s Game 3 performance against the Pistons in the first round of the 2005 playoffs.

The 7th seeded Sixers were trailing 2-0 heading back into Philadelphia, but Iverson went off for 37 points on 15-of-26 shooting and 15 assists to carry his team to a 115-104 victory.

The Pistons, at the time, were the defending NBA champions, as they ultimately made it back to the Finals that year after taking care of Philadelphia in five games.

Unfortunately for them, Detroit didn’t repeat as champions, as they lost to the Spurs in seven thrilling games.

Still, Iverson didn’t have the deadliest weapons on his side, so it’s impressive nonetheless that his heroics could earn Philadelphia a win against a team as good as Detroit was.

AI developed a reputation of being pound for pound the greatest scorer of all-time back in his day. Standing as just a 6-foot guard, Iverson had to rely on his speed and dribbling wizardry to put up big scoring performances, and he more than excelled in that.

More Sixers Notes

  • Some rival executives are skeptical that the Sixers are willing to start the season with Ben Simmons on the roster, our own Chris Crouse relays. A breakup appears inevitable at some point regardless of timeline.

  • Daryl Morey has handled the Simmons situation very well, Austin Krell of The Painted Lines opines. Krell points out that the Sixers have a price in mind for Simmons, as they asked for Kyle Lowry, Fred VanVleet, OG Anunoby and the fourth overall pick from the Raptors. It seems highly unlikely that the Sixers will trade Simmons just to check a box.

  • Despite the never-ending trade buzz around Damian Lillard, the Trail Blazers have once again double-downed on those rumors and insist that they will not move the six-time All-Star anytime soon, our own Shyam Ramachandran writes. The Sixers have been linked to the superstar guard, as they would include Simmons in any potential deal in a heartbeat.

  • Adam Sandler is filming a new movie called “Hustle,” which will take place in Philadelphia. Tobias Harris, Matisse Thybulle, Seth Curry, Tyrese Maxey and Doc Rivers will be in the film. (h/t Ky Carlin of Sixerswire)
