Zion Williamson won’t be available for the Pelicans to begin the season.
The former No. 1 pick is still recovering from offseason foot surgery and there is no “fixed timeline” for when he’ll return, VP of basketball operations David Griffin told reporters (via Andrew Lopez of ESPN.com). Williamson will undergo more testing in about two weeks.

Coach Steve Nash maintains that he hasn’t figured out the starting lineup yet, though when Kevin Durant and James Harden both played this preseason, they were paired with Blake Griffin, Joe Harris, and Bruce Bowen (at center) in the starting lineup.

- The Lakers have waived guard Mac McClung (via The Athletic). The former Texas Tech standout was on a training camp deal with the franchise and instead of making the NBA roster, he’ll head to their G League affiliate, the South Bay Lakers.
- There are as many as nine teams in talks with the Sixers about a Ben Simmons trade, including the Cavaliers. Simmons had a “brief” meeting with the Sixers’ front office upon returning to Philadelphia and it’s unclear when exactly he’ll suit back up for the team.
