Wizards Week in Review: 9/19/21 -9/25/21

Chris Crouse by Chris Crouse
September 26, 2021
Reading Time: 3 mins read

Let’s get you up to date on the news, rumors, and content that you might have missed on the Washington Wizards this week:

  • Rui Hachimura will miss the opening of training camp because of a personal matter. His absence is excused by the team.

  • GM Tommy Sheppard addressed the media on Thursday and we have you covered with 10 takeaways from the session.

  • Wes Unseld Jr. addressed the media on Friday, telling FortyEightMinutes and other reporters his No. 1 priority heading into training camp will be developing on-court chemistry.

  • Washington announced a partnership with Socios.com, a leading global blockchain provider for the sports and entertainment industry.

  • Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, Kyle Kuzma, and Montrezl Harrell will all be eligible to be traded as part of a package on Monday and we wrote about that as well as how the Russell Westbrook trade opens up flexibility for the Wizards.

  • Tony Kornheiser believes the Wizards should trade Bradley Beal for Simmons, as he explained on a recent episode of ESPN’s Pardon The Interruption. Co-host Michael Wilbon sees Simmons as a good fit for the Wizards, however, he argues it should be as a co-pilot to Beal.

  • In media news, Fred Katz, who has been covering the Wizards for The Athletic over the past few seasons no longer cover the team. Instead, Katz will cover the Knicks for the publication.

  • Matt Modderno of Bullets Forever examines a list of still-available free agents the Wizards should keep tabs on, including DeMarcus Cousins and Ed Davis. Washington picking up another veteran center may hinge on whether or not Thomas Bryant (ACL injury) is able to make a smooth return to the court early on in the season.

  • We examined three underrated questions on the Wizards heading into the 2021-22 season, including how much Deni Avdija is expected to play.
