The Warriors struggled in their 2020-21 debut, losing 125-99 to the Nets. Golden State was integrating many new pieces with Kelly Oubre and James Wiseman among those making their debut, however, coach Steve Kerr isn’t one for excuses and he’s not thrilled with the team’s current play.
“I feel really good about where we’re gonna be a couple months from now. But right now, we’re nowhere close to being a good team. And that showed,” Kerr said (via The Athletic’s Drew Shiller).
“I didn’t like our level of competition. I actually thought we would compete harder and play better defense. And we didn’t do that. The lack of physicality and competition was the most disappointing thing,” Kerr continued.
Stephen Curry returned after an injury-plagued 2019-20 campaign and while he looked a bit rusty, he had his moments. Curry dished out 10 assists, though he connected on just 2-of-10 shots from behind the arc and scored 20 points during his 30 minutes on the floor.
Golden State’s next contest is Christmas Day vs. the Bucks.
