Injury Notes: Heat, Celtics, Game 5, Porter, LaVine, Iguodala, Payton

Reading Time: 3 mins read

Miami’s P.J. Tucker is listed as questionable for Wednesday’s Game 5 against the Celtics as he’s dealing with a left knee injury that he suffered in Game 2. Gabe Vincent and Max Strus are listed as questionable with left and right hamstring strains respectively, but the two have shown up on Miami’s injury report repeatedly and haven’t missed any postseason action.

Tyler Herro (left groin strain) and Kyle Lowry (left hamstring strain) are the two most notable names alongside Tucker to keep an eye on as the most likely to possibly miss Wednesday’s contest as they are also listed as questionable. If Herro and/or Lowry can’t play, Vincent and Victor Oladipo should see a formidable amount of playing time. Meanwhile, Tucker’s absence would mean Caleb Martin should see more playing time.

More Injury & Availability Notes

  • The Celtics announced that defensive stars Marcus Smart (right ankle sprain) and Robert Williams (left knee soreness) are listed as questionable for Wednesday’s Game 5 against the Heat. Al Horford should continue seeing a fair share of playing time if one or both Smart and Williams are sidelined.

  • Warriors veteran Andre Iguodala has yet to make his postseason debut as he deals with an ongoing neck injury.

Gary Payton II, who suffered a fractured elbow in the Warriors’ 106-101 loss to the Grizzlies in Game 2, was a “longshot” to return sometime in the Conference Finals and with the Warriors on the verge of advancing to the NBA Finals, it’s safe to say we won’t see Payton in action until the big stage.

It’s worth noting that the team is being cautious with Otto Porter Jr. (left foot) who missed Tuesday’s Game 4 loss in Dallas. Warriors head coach Steve Kerr said they “just don’t want to take a chance with his future availability” when asked about Porter Jr.’s injury. His status for Thursday’s Game 5 remains unknown.

  • Although it’s not relevant to the current NBA postseason injuries, Bulls star Zach LaVine underwent arthroscopic surgery on his left knee on Tuesday in Los Angeles. LaVine is set to become an unrestricted free agent on July 1 and should garner a lot of interest from several teams.
