Jalen Brunson continues to boost his stock ahead of free agency. Some scouts and executives around the league believe the point guard’s pricetag this summer will come in at $20 million per season, Tim MacMahon of ESPN.com hears. Some within the league believe that figure could reach as much as $25 million per season.
Brunson, who was drafted by the Mavericks with the No. 33 overall pick in the 2018 draft, is averaging 29.8 points per game while dishing out 4.8 assists and grabbing 5.3 rebounds per contest during the postseason. The New Jersey native told MacMahon that he’s “loved every second” of his time in Dallas thus far. While the Mavs will certainly have a chance to re-sign him, they won’t be alone in the pursuit of his services.
The Knicks have been linked to Brunson for much of this season and the Pacers are another team that has its eyes on the point guard.
Brunson says he’s just focused on what’s going on in the Mavericks’ series right now, however, and not what’s ahead for him in free agency.
“Not at all. Not at all. I promise you,” Brunson said. “My dad, we’ll joke about it, but (my family knows) that I don’t want to talk about it until the season’s over. That’s really not going to help me right now. … I know it’s a weird situation. People don’t believe that I don’t talk about it, but it’s not a topic of conversation until I guess we get there.”
