Wizards G-League Draft Recap

With the NBA season officially back, Wizards fans can’t take their eyes off their new-look squad that’s off to a strong start.

However, the D.C. community should not forget about the G-League draft as a means to add to the talent pipeline within the organization.

The Wizards’ G League affiliate,Capital City Go-Go, selected Rodney Pryor (Georgetown), Jachai Taylor (Queens, NC), and Jermaine Haley (West Virginia) with its three picks in the 2021 NBA G League Draft.

“We’re very pleased with the selections we were able to make this afternoon,” said Go-Go general manager Amber Nichols. “Rodney Pryor brings a wealth of G League experience and a veteran presence to our team, and his athleticism will help us on both ends of the floor. Jachai Taylor is an intriguing prospect who showed exceptional athleticism in college. Jermaine Haley showed qualities in college that we are looking for coming from a highly respected school like West Virginia. All of their experience should help us as we get ready for the upcoming season.”

Rodney Pryor, an NBA G League veteran from Georgetown was the first of the trio taken with the 24th overall pick in the first round. Pryor, originally from Evanston, Ill. has played in 100 career NBA G League games with Sioux Falls, Raptors 905, Windy City, and Salt Lake City. Most recently, the 6-5 guard competed with the Salt Lake City Stars in the 2019-20 season, where he averaged 7.5 points and 3.9 rebounds per contest in 35 games (seven starts).

Originally from Waukegan, Ill., Taylor spent two seasons at Murray State before transferring to Queens to complete his collegiate career.

Last but not least, Jermaine Haley, a 6-7, 215-pound guard from West Virginia was their third and final selection, with the 72th overall pick of the draft. Haley started in all 30 games for the Mountaineers during the 2019-20 season, averaging 8.9 points and 4.3 rebounds per game his senior year.
