The Golden State Warriors may be expressing trade interest in Phoenix Suns small forward Kelly Oubre Jr., according to Nick Friedell of ESPN.
“The name that keeps popping up when you talk to people is Kelly,” Friedell said on The Jump. “Can they get him in? What would they have to give up?”
Coach Steve Kerr and the Warriors are looking to make a quick turnaround with the returns of Steph Curry and Klay Thompson from injury. They missed the playoffs entirely last season after making five straight appearances in the Finals and winning three championships.
GM Bob Myers is armed with the second overall pick and some promising young players, and word is, the Warriors are more than open to moving some of those assets for another young player who can help them win big right away.
They acquired swingman Andrew Wiggins at the February trade deadline, but it’s not yet been determined if Wiggins is part of the long-term plans.
Meanwhile, there is no indication that Oubre is even available. He averaged career-highs of 18.7 points and 6.4 rebounds in 56 games last season, and with a promising run in the Disney bubble, the Suns may be asking for a lot to part with any of their starters.
