Stephen Curry‘s status remains up in the air for Saturday’s series opener vs. the Nuggets. Curry hasn’t played in a month because of a strained left foot as well as a bone bruise and coach Steve Kerr indicated that the point guard will need to get some 5-on-5 work in practice before he sees minutes in a game.
THat’s expected to happen on Thursday and the Warriors are hoping that it goes well. Golden State is currently 5.5-point favorites against Denver in Game 1 and they have odds of 8-1 to win the NBA Finals (4th-best).
More on the Warriors
- While Gary Payton II would like to return to the Warriors next season, his Hall of Fame father tells Sean Deveney of Heavy.com that he’s likely to be elsewhere if he can earn a significant contract. “I would never tell my son not to explore something that would be better or would be best for him,” Payton Sr. said. “But I think he understands that Golden State is the best situation for him if there is playing time and they get it right. But if it doesn’t work out, he knows that this is a business and he has to move on.”
- If the Warriors don’t advance to the NBA Finals, it could mean a breakup between Curry and some of his high-priced teammates, as we wrote in our 2022 John Mayer-themed playoff preview. In the piece, we examined the state of every franchise in the postseason.
