Two games early next week between the Cavaliers and Wizards have been postponed due to health and safety protocols, the NBA announced.
The games were scheduled for Sunday and Monday in D.C. and are being delayed because the Wizards won’t have the minimum eight players available.
A report from The Athletic on Friday indicated that five Wizards players have tested positive for the COVID-19 virus this week. A handful of others are reportedly quarantining because of contact-tracing guidelines.
The Wizards have already had their previous two games postponed — Wednesday vs. the Jazz and Friday vs. the Pistons.
As of now, the Wizards’ next scheduled game is Jan. 20 for the Hornets. Those who have not contacted the virus could be available by then.
This marks the first time the Cavs have had games postponed because of a virus issues regarding an opponent. Given their current injury situation, they may not be upset by the extra time off.
