The Spurs and LaMarcus Aldridge will head their separate ways.
“We’ve mutually agreed for him to work on some opportunities elsewhere.” Gregg Popovich told reporters prior to San Antonio’s contest on Wednesday night (via Tim MacMahon of ESPN.com).
San Antonio won’t look to agree to a buyout with Aldridge, per Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.com. Instead, the franchise is working with the big man to find a trade and they are confident that they will find one.
Aldridge, who will turn 36 during the offseason, lost his starting job recently and while the vet has accepted the role off the bench, the Spurs can afford to let him go now that Jacob Poeltl has taken the next steps in his career. Aldridge is making $24 million this season, which is the final year of his contract.
