The New Orleans Pelicans are expected to buy out the contract of shooting guard J.J. Redick in the event a trade can’t be found, according to Keith Pompey of the Philadelphia Inquirer.
Redick has been linked to several teams in recent weeks, including the 76ers and New York Knicks. But with Thursday’s trade deadline closing in, the Pelicans seemingly have not come close to any sort of deal involving Redick.
Along with Redick, New Orleans is said to be open to moving point guard Eric Bledsoe and center Steven Adams — and perhaps attach guard Lonzo Ball to help facilitate a trade. As Joe Vardon of The Athletic wrote, Ball could “serve as a reward” to a team willing to take on the contract of either Bledsoe or Adams.
Redick, 36, will be a free agent this summer and is currently on the books for $13 million. While he’s clearly slowed down in terms of effectiveness this season, his perimeter shooting is still viewed as an asset to contending teams.
More Trade Rumors
- One “prominent” voice within the New York Knicks organization is in favor of landing available Cleveland Cavaliers center Andre Drummond, per Ian Begley of SNY.tv. But it does not appear as if the rest of the front office considers Drummond a fit, Begley added. The Los Angeles Lakers and Brooklyn Nets may be left to battle it out for Drummond in the likely event his contract is bought out by the Cavs.
- The Indiana Pacers have had several trade conversations centered on point guard Aaron Holiday, center Myles Turner and small forward Doug McDermott, according to Jake Fischer of Bleacher Report. The LA Clippers are one team said to be keen on Holiday, as our Chris Crouse relayed earlier.
