Pau Gasol is retiring from the game of basketball, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic. Gasol played 19 years in the NBA, which included six All-Star Game appearances and two championships.
The Barcelona, Spain native spent most of his career with the Grizzlies, but it was with the Lakers where he saw the most success. The Lakers will also be retiring his No. 16, per Charania.
Gasol and the late Kobe Bryant formed a dynamic duo during their 6+ seasons together in Los Angeles, as they won back-to-back championships together in 2009 and 2010.
Before coming to the NBA, Gasol played for FC Barcelona for three seasons.
Gasol, who also had stints with the Bulls, Spurs and Bucks, finishes his NBA career with averages of 17.0 points, 9.2 rebounds and 3.2 assists per game.
