The Kyle Lowry sweepstakes continues and Shams Charania of The Athletic reports that the Raptors are “seriously engaged” with three teams: the Heat, Sixers, and Lakers.
Miami is seen as the frontrunner, as we detailed on Wednesday, though Philadelphia and Los Angeles remain in the mix. Toronto wants Tyler Herro in a Heat package, yet that is apparently a non-starter for the franchise. Brian Windhorst of ESPN.com hears that they are offering Duncan Robinson as part of the deal.
Windhorst adds that the Raptors are looking for Tyrese Maxey and Matisse Thybulle as part of the deal for Philly. Some around the league believe the Sixers had the best package for Lowry with just one of the two prospects included (along with picks and vets to match salary).
Lowry, who will be a free agent at the end of the season, will seek a new contract with whichever team trades for him. The 35-year-old isn’t eligible for a contract extension but rather, Lowry will aim for a new deal this offseason (reportedly seeking two-years, $50 million).
More NBA Trade Rumors
- The Celtics and Nuggets remain engaged with the Magic about Aaron Gordon, Jared Weiss of The Athletic relays. Gordon would reportedly welcome a trade to either franchise. Boston’s package would likely involve Aaron Nesmith heading to Orlando along with a first-round pick, though it remains to be seen whether that will be enough to get the Magic to bite.
- One league executive told Weiss (same piece) that Boston could turn a Gordon acquisition into a three-team trade that also nets them Lonzo Ball. Such a deal would send Marcus Smart to Orlando (the Magic have been linked to Smart recently).
- The Celtics remain interested in Nikola Vucevic, though the Magic have a high asking price for the big man, according to Jake Fischer of Bleacher Report. Orlando is reportedly seeking multiple first-round picks and a young player who has the potential to be part of their core.
- The Knicks remain interested in Ball and the trade package for the former No. 2 overall pick could end up being Frank Ntilikina, Kevin Knox, and a first-rounder, Eric Pincus explains in the same Bleacher Report piece. New York is said to be interested in Ball as a restricted free agent if they do not deal for him ahead of the deadline.
