Each of the San Antonio Spurs’ next three games have been postponed after four players tested positive for COVID-19, the league announced.
Also, because the Spurs played the Charlotte Hornets on Sunday, each of the Hornets’ next two games are postponed, per the league’s guidelines on contact tracing.
The Spurs games impacted — Wednesday at Cleveland, Saturday at New York and Monday at Indiana. The Hornets will not play Wednesday vs. Chicago and Friday vs. Denver.
“With COVID, we all have to continue being meticulous about doing everything that needs to be done,” Spurs coach Gregg Popovich told reporters Sunday. “It’s still here, and we are not even close to done with it, so we are trying to really tell our team to bear down every day and do everything — everything — that we are told to do.”
The Spurs are 2-0 on their seven-game rodeo trip, in which they leave San Antonio to make room for a rodeo at their home arena.
Spurs guard Quinndary Weatherspoon entered the league’s health and safety protocols prior to Sunday’s win at Charlotte.
“Weatherspoon is the second Spurs player to enter the protocols,” noted Tom Orsborn of the San Antonio Express-News. “Backup center Drew Eubanks, along with assistant coach Becky Hammon and an unnamed staffer, were quarantined for nearly two weeks last month in Los Angeles.”
The Spurs’ game at Detroit was postponed Monday, the league’s 25th postponement of the season.
