There were recent rumblings that the Mavericks had attempted to trade for Vince Carter back in the early 2000’s and team owner Mark Cuban debunked those rumors in a recent one-on-one with FortyEightMinutes.com.
“False. 100 percent False,” Cuban told our own Landon Buford as part of a lengthy interview that explored the team’s NFT plans and potential changes in the league among other topics.
The rumored trade would have sent Dirk Nowitzki and Steve Nash to the Raptors in exchange for Vince Carter and Antonio Davis.
“I’ve never had a trade talk ever for Dirk Nowitzki. Ever,” Cuban explained. “We got calls but we never called anybody, never said we’d be interested or would consider listing to calls.”
The Raptors ended up trading to the Nets in 2004 for Eric Williams, Aaron Williams, Alonzo Mourning and two first-round picks. Nash ended up departing Dallas for Phoenix and Nowitzki ended up having a *Larry David voice* pretty good career for the Mavericks.
