Former No. 1 overall pick and Magic guard Markelle Fultz is out for the season after tearing his ACL, as relayed by Roy Parry of the Orlando Sentinel.
Fultz suffered the injury in the first quarter of Wednesday’s home win over the Cavaliers.
It’s a major blow for both Fultz and the Magic, as he had continue to make strong progress after a slow start to his career — which began with the 76ers in the 2017 season.
Fultz is also the second member of the Magic to have suffered a torn ACL since last season re-started in August. He will now be joining Jonathon Simmons on the sideline for the rest of the year.
Shoulder issues limited Fultz to just 33 games total over his first two seasons. But after a trade to the Magic, Fultz appeared in 72 of the Magic’s 73 games last year, averaging 12.1 points and 5.1 assists.
He improved those career-highs to 14.3 points and 6.1 assists through the first seven games this year.
