Former NBA center Kendrick Perkins is a large man and a man with some big opinions. One of those involved Collin Sexton, the Cavaliers’ third-year guard, who went on a scoring tear at the end of last year.
In fact, Sexton did the same thing the year before that as a rookie.
So Perkins felt confident in announcing both on Twitter and as his role as an ESPN analyst that Sexton would become a player to watch. Perkins strongly reiterated that stance Saturday, after Sexton scored a game-high 27 points to lead the Cavs past the Hawks.
“Y’all Remember when I told y’all on this App last year that Collin Sexton was a hell of player and y’all told me to stay off the weed?!” Perkins tweeted. “Carry on…”
Sexton and the Cavs are off to a 4-2 start, which includes a 2-1 record on the road. Sexton has yet to miss a game in his professional career and is averaging 25.8 points and 3.3 assists in the six games so far this season.
The Cavs are quite confident Sexton will continue his rise after making him the No. 8 overall draft pick in 2018. Clearly, Perkins is quite confident, too. And he’s not afraid to let you know.
