Free agent forward Ersan Ilyasova has agreed to a contract with the Western Conference-leading Utah Jazz for the remainder of the season, according to Jordan Schultz of ESPN.
Elyasova, 33, is 6-foot-9 and has been in the NBA since 2006. He averaged 6.6 points and 3.3 rebounds in 63 games with the Milwaukee Bucks last season. But he appeared in just three playoff games before entering free agency this past offseason.
Per Shultz, Ilyasova will have to clear COVID-19 protocols before officially signing with the Jazz, but that is expected to happen as soon as Wednesday.
He is expected to add perimeter shooting to an already versatile Jazz forward rotation that includes Bojan Bogdanovic, Joe Ingles, Royce O’Neale and Georges Niang.
The Jazz (27-9) enter the second half of the season with the NBA’s best record. They currently have 13 players on standard contract, and by NBA rule, needed to add a 14th before they started play again.
It appears Ilyasova will be their man.
That still leaves them with an open roster spot, but they won’t need to fill that ever if they don’t wish.
