Veteran Kevin Love recently spoke about how the vibes are different for the Cavaliers heading into the 2022-23 NBA season.
“It’s one thing to say and it’s one thing to actually see it live here.” Love explained. “More than anything, guys have a willingness to just listen, able to really communicate at a very high level. I think that all starts with (coach J.B. Bickerstaff) but trickles down through the coaching staff. I think we just have very, very high character people, let alone players, out here with us. I think we’ve gotten better every practice so far.”
Love should have a role off the bench for Cleveland, though he may start to begin the season with Mobley nursing an ankle injury.
Mobley played in 69 games as a rookie and should be in a position to improve upon his superb rookie campaign. The 2021 No. 3 overall pick posted 5.2 win shares last season, which was second among all rookies (behind only Scottie Barnes).
In the backcourt, Garland and Mitchell should both have plenty of opportunity and Caris LeVert will be among the leaders in shot attempts off the bench. LeVert should be the main source of offense for the Cavaliers’ second unit, yet the return of Ricky Rubio later in the season adds a complicating factor to his value.
Isaac Okoro appears to be in the lead for the starting small forward spot, though Cedi Osman may also see run there.
