Kyle Lowry recently declared his loyalty to the Raptors, though that’s not going to stop opposing front offices from trying to acquire the veteran point guard.
The Heat are one of those teams with interest. According to Michael Scotto of HoopsHype, Miami discussed a Lowry deal with Toronto, offering Goran Dragic, Kelly Olynyk, and Kendrick Nunn as the possible framework of the deal.
Dragic has the ability to veto any trade (by virtue of signing a one-year pact with a team option during the offseason), so that could complicate things if negotiations continue. Dragic’s contract includes a team option for $19.44 million next season and if Toronto or any team acquires him and declines that option, they would lose his Bird Rights.
Nunn is heading for restricted free agency at the end of the year while Olynyk will be an unrestricted free agent. It’s unclear exactly how either player fits into Miami’s long-term plans.
Lowry turns 35 later this month and he continues to showcase his ability at his late age. He’s averaging 18.0 points, 7.2 rebounds, and 5.5 assists while knocking down 40.3% of his threes.
