Sixers center Joel Embiid fell to the ground in obvious pain during the team’s win over Washington and the franchise announced that it’s a left knee injury. Embiid walked gingerly to the locker room with some help after the third quarter fall and an MRI on Saturday revealed a bone bruise, per Keith Pompey of the Philadelphia Inquirer and other reports.
Pompey added that there is no structural damage to the knee. There is no timetable for Embiid’s return, though he is expected to be out a minimum of two weeks.
Embiid had 23 points, seven rebounds, three assists and two blocks in the Sixers’ 127-101 victory.
“It looked like a hyperextension and that’s what we’ll hope it is…We’re just praying that he’s healthy tomorrow,” Tobias Harris told FortyEightMinutes.com and other the media immediately after the contest.
Doc Rivers said he spoke to Embiid postgame and he was in good spirits. Tony Bradley and Dwight Howard are expected to see expanded run in Embiid’s absence. Rivers mentioned that Mike Scott could also see some time at the five.
