The Kings have decided to fill their open roster spot by signing forward/center Chimezie Metu, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.
Metu will receive the Kings’ available two-way contract, Woj added.
Sacramento released Metu from his standard deal Monday, so they only needed to wait out the 48 hours for him to clear waivers before bringing him back.
Metu, 23, is 6-foot-9 and was selected by the Spurts in the second round (No. 48 overall) of the 2018 draft. He appeared in 48 games total during his first two seasons, compiling averages of 2.3 points and 1.5 rebounds. The Spurs waived Metu in November.
He later signed a three-year partially guaranteed deal with the Kings before the preseason. Because that guarantee didn’t exceed $50,000, the Kings were allowed to bring him back on a two-way contract, as noted by Luke Adams of Hoops Rumors.
The Kings opened the season with a thrilling 124-122 overtime win over the Nuggets on Wednesday night, when Buddy Hield tipped in a missed dunk at the buzzer.
