In a move that has the city of Miami and the basketball world buzzing, Coach Erik Spoelstra is taking a giant leap in his basketball coaching journey. Multiple sources, including ESPN and The Associated Press, report that USA Basketball is expected to name Spoelstra as the next Head Coach for the U.S. Men’s National Team. Coach Spoelstra will be succeeding Steve Kerr as the new Head Coach for the USA team. Coach Kerr is fresh off of leading the USA team to Olympic gold in the Summer of 2024. Coach Spoelstra was one of his assistants, and now he receives the ultimate promotion. Spolestra will now be tasked with steering Team USA through the 2027 FIBA World Cup and the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
Spoelstra has had quite the NBA coaching career, working for the Miami Heat. He has now started from the bottom (literally) and climbed up the ranks to become the Head Coach of Team USA.
