The NBA is reducing expenses and limiting hiring for the remainder of the fiscal year due to “economic headwinds,” according to a report from Sopan Deb of The New York Times.
The league’s fiscal year begins in October. NBA spokesperson Mike Bass expanded on why the league is taking measures.
“Like other businesses in the U.S. and globally, the league office is not immune to macroeconomic pressures and taking steps to reduce expenses,” said Bass.
Whether there would be a round of layoffs or not was not addressed (h/t to RealGM). in addition to hiring, travel and entertainment will be among the expenses being cut.
