The Sixers are signing Montrezl Harrell to a two-year deal, adding the center to a rotation that has all the makings of a team that can make a deep run in the Eastern Conference come playoff time next year.
Harrell, who landed at No. 5 in our latest Top 48 Unsigned NBA Free Agent list, began last season with the Wizards before being traded to the Hornets leading up to the NBA trade deadline.
Harrell was drafted (No. 32 overall pick) in the 2015 draft by Daryl Morey when the executive was with the Rockets. The center was dealt to the Clippers in the Chris Paul trade during the 2017 offseason and he later would also play with the Lakers before making his way to Washington in the Russell Westbrook deal.
Sixers Further Increase Depth
Philadelphia has had an eventful offseason around the edges. The team flanked James Harden and Joel Embiid with several new rotation players, including P.J. Tucker and Danuel House. The front office also added De’Anthony Melton via a draft night trade.
There had been rumors that the Sixers could trade for Eric Gordon, though it appears the team won’t acquire the shooting guard (at least for now). Still, with Harrell in place, the franchise has yet another former Rocket projected to play minutes in Doc Rivers‘ rotation.
