While much of the free agency news in New York has centered around Kevin Durant, the Knicks have made several moves, including signing Jalen Brunson and re-signing Mitchell Robinson.
Where do the Knicks go from here? It’s possible that they make another splash and bring back Carmelo Anthony for what could be the future Hall-of-Famer’s final season in the NBA.
“If Carmelo wanted to come back and have his final year in the NBA here [with the Knicks], that was on the table, and I haven’t heard anything about it being off the table,” Begley said on SNY.tv’s free agency show.
Carmelo spent last season with the Lakers, appearing in 69 games with averages of 13.3 points and 4.2 rebounds.
The Knicks are expected to be in a position to return to the playoffs this season after making an upgrade at the point guard position.
More NBA Rumors
- The Timberwolves were rumored to be in touch with the Spurs about a Dejounte Murray trade and Jon Krawcynski of The Athletic confirms that the discussions took place while adding that Minnesota simply wasn’t willing to meet San Antonio’s asking price. Krawcynski also adds that Minnesota remains in the market for another big man and the franchise has had discussions about Rudy Gobert.
- The Mavericks added JaVale McGee in free agency and they may not be done. Collin Sexton could be on their radar, as Sam Amico of HoopsWire relays. Sexton was reportedly looking for a deal that brings him an annual value of $20 million, though it’s starting to look like that kind of contract simply isn’t out there right now.
- The Celtics’ dealt for Malcolm Brogdon, in part, because they wanted a “true playmaking guard,” Woj explains. The Celtics gave up Daniel Theis, Aaron Nesmith, and a 2023 first-round pick in the trade, though Indiana attempted to acquire Grant Williams (as Jake Fischer of Bleacher Report notes). In the end, the first-rounder was enough of a centerpiece for Indiana.
