The NBA will hold the All-Star “weekend” in Atlanta this season and the 3-Point contest will take place just 90 minutes before the game (in the past, the contest has taken place on Saturday night).
Only six players will participate this year. Players will shoot at the typical five locations along the arc, Four of the racks will have four regular balls (one point) and one money ball (two points) while one special rack will contain five money balls (players have their choice of which spot contains all money balls). Additionally, two MTN DEW Zones” will be six feet behind each 3-point line and they will each be worth three points.

Mike Conley (+500), who won the NBA’s H.O.R.S.E. competition last spring, was a late addition, replacing Devin Booker both as an All-Star and participant in this contest. Conley is making 44.4% of his shots from behind the arc this season, slightly up from his career mark of 43.9%, and his fellow Jazzman, Donovan Mitchell (+500) is shooting a career-high 38.2% from three. Oddsmakers handing each equal odds likely has more to do with Donovan having more popularity than it does with assessing talent.
Jayson Tatum‘s 36.8% from three this season is the worst mark in the field. It would be a major upset if either he or Jaylen Brown (38.8% from behind the arc this season) wins the contests and the odds reflect that.
Zach LaVine (+400) is having a monster season and his 3-point shooting is a major reason why. The former UCLA Bruin is nailing 43.5% of his looks from behind the arc this year (his previous career-high was 38.9%).
Prediction: Stephen Curry (+125) is the only participant who has won the contest previously, edging out the competition back in 2015. The two-time MVP is the favorite this year and I wouldn’t bet against him.
