Mark Cuban reveals why Mavericks are accepting Dogecoin

In a somewhat surprising event, Mavericks owner Mark Cuban announced that his team will begin accepting a new currency for tickets and merchandise: Dogecoin.

β€œThe Mavericks have decided to accept Dogecoin as payment for Mavs tickets and merchandise for one very important, earth shattering reason, because we can!,” Cuban said in a statement (h/t MarketWatch).

It’s not the first time an NBA team began accepting crypto. Back in 2014, the Kings started taking Bitcoin as a payment and the Mavs followed that trend in 2019. Dallas is the only team accepting dogecoin at this time, however.

I probably should disclose that I own a very minuscule amount of Dogecoin. Do I take it seriously? Not particularly. I don’t really endorse it and I don’t not endorse it (not here to give financial advice). I just get serious FOMO at times and got in on the Dogecoin action when it was hyping up and if you win one of our daily contests, we can probably pay you in Dogecoin should you want to get in on it too.
