The Rockets will employ a very conservative approach when it comes to managing their veteran guards’ playing time going forward, Jonathan Feigen of the Houston Chronicle relays. Neither John Wall, Victor Oladipo, nor Eric Gordon will play both games of their current back-to-back as a precautionary measure.
It’s something we’ve talked about the last three weeks or so, four weeks maybe,” coach Stephen Silas said. “With John and Vic being primary ballhandlers, that makes it a little harder. Now, you add Eric to the mix [of players sitting], it makes it really hard.”
All three guards had serious injuries somewhat recently and with Houston not projected to move too far up the Western Conference ranks, it’s fair to wonder about whether the team will only be more cautious with their vets, especially Wall.
More From The Western Conference
- Patrick Beverley may return to the lineup for the Clippers in their upcoming two-game road trip (Minnesota, Chicago), Ohm Youngmisuk of ESPN reports. The point guard has been out since January 24 with knee soreness.
- Dennis Schroder had to adapt when he came to the Lakers but he says it was easy to do so playing alongside Anthony Davis and LeBron James. “I play with the two best players in the world,” Schroder said (via Brodrick Turner of The Los Angeles Times). “So, for me, I try to adjust to this group, to them, it’s big time. I think I just got to be more aggressive taking the right shots and putting them in good position to score and play a lot faster.”
- Malik Beasley has been sentenced to 120 days in prison after pleading guilty to a felony stemming from an incident in November The shooting guard reportedly “walked up to [the victim’s] vehicle, tapped on the vehicle window, pointed a gun at them and advised them to get off of the property,” per ESPN. Beasley will serve his sentence after the season, so he won’t miss any court time for the Wolves, and it’s possible he serves his sentence in home confinement.
