The Los Angeles Lakers earned their second win of the season in San Antonio at the AT&T Center. Despite missing their Superstar LeBron James. James was out because of a sore ankle. The Lakers defeated the Spurs in Overtime, 125-121. The Lakers may have been on the road but the Lakers fans were out in full force. The cheers for the Lakers were so loud, it felt like a home game. Malik Monk is a newcomer to the Lakers this year. He was shocked by the crowd.
“It was like a home game,” said Malik Monk, who started in James’ place. “I’ve never seen nothing like it before. It’s crazy. It’s a crazy feeling. It made us more comfortable and let everybody relax like we were at home.”
Russell Westbrook and Anthony Davis led the Lakers to victory despite missing LeBron James. Westbrook scored 33 points on 15 of 27 from the field. He also hit a three and attempted four of them. Westbrook also grabbed 10 rebounds and dished out eight assists. Anthony Davis scored 35 points on 15 of 31 shooting from the field. Davis also grabbed 17 rebounds and dished out four assists on the night. Westbrook spoke on the Lakers’ mindset coming into this game with James in the lineup.
“We understand that with (James’ absence) comes the responsibility of making guys around us better,” Westbrook said. “And tonight, I thought A.D. did a great job of just being aggressive all night, miss and makes, finishing well around the basket. He was big for us tonight.”
