As things currently stand, Stephen Curry will be an unrestricted free agent in the summer of 2o22. However, Golden State Warriors GM Bob Myers told reporters that he’s “pretty confident” that the Warriors and Curry will agree to an extension later this summer, according to Anthony Slater of The Athletic.
There have been loose rumors about Curry potentially joining LeBron James and Anthony Davis on the Los Angeles Lakers, but the logistics of making that happen would be very tough, as the Lakers don’t have many assets to offer the Warriors’ way.
A potential extension with the Warriors could give Curry a four-year, $215 million deal that would cover him through his 37th birthday, as he’ll almost certainly be able to maintain a high level of play for the majority of that contract.
The Warriors have missed the playoffs for the second straight year after a dominant stretch in which they went to the NBA Finals for five consecutive seasons. If it wasn’t for Curry’s MVP caliber season this year, then the Warriors wouldn’t have even come close to being in the play-in tournament this season.
