Marquese Chriss will miss the rest of the season after breaking the fibula in his right leg, Shams Charania of The Athletic reports.
This is the former No. 8 overall pick’s second season with the Warriors and while he’ll make roughly $1.8 million this year, he’ll be a free agent at the end of the season.
Chriss was drafted by the Suns but didn’t pan out in Phoenix. Prior to coming to Golden State, he had short stints with Cleveland and Houston as well.
More on the Warriors
- The Warriors are 0-2 but one bright spot has been James Wiseman. “He’s clearly the focal point of the future of how we’re building this team with Steph, Klay, Draymond. I can now throw James in there,” coach Steve Kerr said (via Anthony Slater of The Athletic). Wiseman should see even more run with Chriss out for the season.
- Draymond Green hasn’t yet played with Wiseman but he’s been keenly observing the rookie’s game. “The fun part is he don’t have a [explicit] clue about what he’s actually doing,” Green said (via Drew Shiller, Warriors Outsiders). “He don’t even know the basics. That is exciting because he’s gonna learn those basics. But to see what he’s able to do not having a clue … is very exciting.” Definitely sounds like a backhanded compliment if I’ve ever heard one.
- Speaking of Green, the power forward practiced on Saturday and could make his debut against the Bulls today, Connor Letourneau of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. Green missed the Warriors’ first two games with a foot injury.
