Tyrese Maxey has stepped up big time for the Sixers with Ben Simmons out of the lineup, as he’s averaging 15.8 points and 4.7 assists per game through his first 12 games.
With the Sixers also without Joel Embiid and Tobias Harris over the last few games, Maxey has taken his game to a whole new level, as he put up 31 points on 12-of-24 shooting in their recent loss to the Bucks.
While the Sixers lost to the Bucks, Maxey viewed his experience going up against Jrue Holiday as a positive experience.
“I’ve always said since I was coming out of high school that Jrue Holiday was one of the guys I was trying to model my game after,” Maxey said. “He’s a two-way player, he plays both ends of the basketball court, extremely competitive defensively and extremely skilled offensively, and it was crazy going up against him. I think during my draft process I was telling everybody that I compare myself to Jrue Holiday. So to actually play against him, it was kind of cool.”
Maxey profiles as a 6-foot-2, 200-pound scrappy point guard, which is a similar build to Holiday.
Furthermore, Maxey is shooting 69.8 percent within three feet of the rim and 38.5 percent from three, which are two areas Holiday has had success at.
With similar builds and tendencies, Maxey picked the right player to model his game after.
