Ben Simmons reportedly told the Sixers that he wanted out of Philadelphia and should that happen, it’s likely that Tyrese Maxey will be part of the package, as Jason Dumas of KRON News reports.
Simmons and Maxey are both represented by Rich Paul of Klutch Sports and Dumas tweets that he wants both of his clients traded from the franchise.
Maxey was the No. 20 overall pick in the 2020 draft and the Sixers have him under cost control for three more seasons.
Details on the Sixers’ Meeting With Ben Simmons
During the meeting, which took place in Los Angeles last week, team owner Josh Harris, president of basketball operations Daryl Morey, GM Elton Brand, and coach Doc Rivers attempted to convince Simmons to show up to camp in a few weeks and be part of the team.
However, sources told Keith Pompey of the Philadelphia Inquirer that Simmons doesn’t plan on showing up with the intention of forcing a trade.
The team can fine Simmons every day that he’s not in camp but according to Pompey, the former No. 1 overall pick isn’t worried about the financial cost of his hold out.
Simmons, who made his third All-Star appearance this past year, has four years and $147 million left on his contract.
Several teams have been in contact with the Sixers about a Simmons trade. The Timberwolves, Raptors, Cavaliers, Pacers, Kings, and Warriors have all had talks with the franchise about a potential deal.
