The Sixers improved their Summer League record to 2-0 with a dramatic overtime victory over the Hawks 96-88.
Philadelphia got off to a slow start in the game, trailing at the half 43-35 to Atlanta—a team that got nice production from their young players, including Sharife Cooper and Skylar Mays. Paul Reed’s ability to clean up the offensive glass as well as his defensive dominance helped the Sixers gain enough momentum to tie up the contest by the end of the third quarter. Led by their defense and some clutch shooting, the 76ers were able to make a push in the fourth quarter to take the lead.
Isaiah Joe, who scored 21 points on the evening, hit a big-time three-pointer to help the Sixers advance to overtime. Maxey (scored 17 of his 31 points in the fourth/overtime) and Reed (finished with 20 points and a team-high 12 rebounds) were outstanding on offense and defense, helping propel the 76ers to an 8-0 run to close out the Hawks.
The 76ers showed a lot of grit and grind as they trailed by as many as 13 points but still secured the win. The young guns—Maxey, Reed, and Joe—continue to show their worth and how they can be major assets to the organization’s future.
