PHILADELPHIA — Despite having an exceptional start to Summer League, Tyrese Maxey will leave Las Vegas to host a young camp in Texas.
The move was pre-approved by the Sixers, according to Keith Pompey of The Philadelphia Inquirer.
Maxey scored 31 points in Philadelphia’s Summer League win over Atlanta on Thursday, following up his debut where he scored a team-high 21 points.
The former No. 20 overall would have been a strong candidate for Summer League MVP. Although, given his spectacular play and his expected role on the team next year, not having him risk injury is a more prudent plan than chasing inconsequential wins and awards.
“I think we knew Maxey’s a high-level player, and on this stage, he’s done really well in these two games,” said Summer League coach Brian Adams. “…He’s one of the hardest workers we have so he’s just continually improved so it’s awesome to see and I think it’s going to pay dividends come the next season here.”
