Sixers sophomore point guard Tyrese Maxey showed major improvements to his game in his summer league debut (last year’s Summer League was canceled due to the pandemic).
Maxey led the 76ers to a 95-73 victory over the Dallas Mavericks on Monday afternoon scoring a team-high 21 points. In 25 minutes of play, Maxey was able to showcase his newly improved 3-point shooting abilities going 3-for-6 from behind the arc. Maxey looks to have tremendous upside with comparisons to Sacramento Kings point guard De’Aaron Fox due to his size and speed.
Isaiah Joe also looked good against the Mavericks, scoring 15 points while shooting 50 percent from three. Joe showed poise on defense being able to stay in front of the ballhandler using his length and size. Consistent 3-point shooting and solid defense from Joe could help him see more playing time this upcoming NBA season, solidifying a true role on the team.
Paul “B-Ball Paul” Reed continued his all-around dominance as well filling up the stat sheet with his versatile play. Reed was all over the floor scoring nine points, eight rebounds, three steals, four blocks, in only 23 minutes of play. With Reed’s energy and passion, the former G-League MVP will be a 76ers fan favorite for many years to come.
The 76ers might have hit the lottery in the 2020 NBA draft when they selected Maxey, Joe, and Reed. These three young talents are taking major strides to improve their game and with the internal improvements, Philadelphia may be able to repeat their success from the 2020-21 NBA season and remain on top of the Eastern Conference. It’ll go a long way toward achieving their goal of becoming NBA Champions.
