The Sixers have lost two straight games and while they have reinforcements on the way (George Hill‘s debut; Joel Embiid‘s return), it’s fair to wonder whether they should target additional help on the buyout market to compete in the Eastern Conference arms race.
Otto Porter Jr., who was sent to Orlando in the Nikola Vucevic deal, might be the best fit should he and the Magic agree to a buyout. That’s not a certainty at this time, as the franchise has sent out signals that they’ll keep free-agent-to-be in town through the end of the season.
Philadelphia was looking for wing help at the deadline, even offering up Danny Green in trades as they searched the market. The former Wizards wing, who has made 40.3% of his career looks from behind the arc, may not be a flashy addition, though he would help to complete the rotation.
More From Philadelphia
- Embiid won’t play against the Cavaliers, which is the last game on the Sixers’ road trip. The big man could suit up on Saturday at home against the Wolves.
- Ben Simmons had Nuggets guard Facundo Campazzo on him for part of the game, including a non-foul call in the first half of the loss (which Simmons claims the ref told him at half-time was a missed call. “I don’t think too much of it. It is what it is…He’s a feisty little mother … he’s a feisty little guy,” Simmons said with a laugh on a postgame zoom call with FortyEightMinutes and other media members. “I like that. I like it when guys are rough and physical. At the same time, if they are going to be physical, they got to let us be physical. Because if they are going to let me be physical against somebody like that, it’s not going to end right.”
- Vincent Poirier, who was sent to the Knicks in the George Hill deal (and later waived), wasn’t happy about being traded away from the Sixers. “It’s frustrating because I never really had my chance to show what I could bring,” the big man said (via EuroHoops). Poirier also had issues with the way the Sixers communicated the trade to him.
