The NBA has fined 76ers president of basketball operations Daryl Morey $50,000 for violating anti-tampering rules, the league announced.
Morey’s fine was the result of a Dec. 20 post on Twitter about Rockets star James Harden. The post has since been deleted.
It celebrated the one-year anniversary of Harden breaking the Rockets’ franchise record for assists. Bleacher Report captured the post before Morey deleted it several minutes after tweeting it.
Morey told the NBA it was the result of an automated post that just happened to pop up on his feed, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.
Morey was the Rockets’ general manager from 2007 until the end of last season. He took over 76ers operations this past fall.
Meanwhile, Harden is seeking a trade out of Houston, and Philadelphia reportedly is one of his preferred destinations. That very well could have played a role in the Morey fine.
