Paul George has agreed to a four-year, $212 million deal with the Philadelphia 76ers, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski. The final year includes a player option.
George comes to The City of Brotherly Love after spending five seasons with his hometown Los Angeles Clippers, leading them as deep as the Western Conference Finals in 2021.
The Sixers also signed Tyrese Maxey to a five-year, $204 million extension, per Wojnarowski. Kelly Oubre Jr. also remains in Philadelphia on a two-year, $16.3 million deal, per Wojnarowski.
The Sixers hope George’s elite play on both ends of the floor gives Joel Embiid and Maxey the help they need to finally get to the NBA Finals in an improving Eastern Conference.
A trio of Embiid, George, and Maxey will be a nightmare for opposing defenses to account for, especially in the multitude of ways each player can score.
George can create his own shot off the dribble, attack the rim with reckless abandon, and knock down the catch-and-shoot 3-pointer at any given time, which should also open up the paint and driving lanes for Embiid.
George will also help lock down the perimeter on defense and guard the opposing team’s best player.
George’s skillset seems to be a hand-in-glove fit for what Philly needed on both ends of the floor last season, so assuming all can stay healthy, they should be in the mix to win a championship all season long.
