It’s no secret that the Pelicans would like to clear some veterans out of their backcourt in order to create more playing time for Kira Lewis and Nickeil Alexander-Walker. Both Eric Bledsoe and J.J. Redick are very available prior to the trade deadline, though Tim Bontemps of ESPN hears that neither player is likely to bring New Orleans much of a return.
Redick is on a $13 million expiring deal and could end up being bought out rather than traded. The Knicks are among the teams that have been linked to Redick, who desires to play in the northeast again.
Eric Bledsoe is under contract through the 2022-23 season, with his 2021-22 salary coming in at $18.13 million and his 2022-23 salary set at a non-guaranteed $19.38 (it wouldn’t be a Buster Douglas-level upset if a team opts to pay Bledsoe that amount).
More From Around The Western Conference
- Oklahoma City appears to be in no hurry to move Al Horford with Chris Mannix of Sports Illustrated relaying that the franchise won’t deal him without receiving an asset in return. The Thunder netted a first-rounder from the Sixers last fall to take on the big man’s contract.
- Michael Porter Jr. is “probably” untouchable, though several executives around the league wonder if the Nuggets will look to sell high on the forward, Mannix writes in the same piece. Denver is likely staring at a max extension when the former No. 14 overall pick is eligible for his rookie scale deal this summer.
- The Clippers’ biggest need is a point guard and Terry Rozier is among the players whom the franchise has interest in, per Mannix. George Hill and Ricky Rubio, who could be an option for the Raptors as a Kyle Lowry replacement, are also trade candidates.
