The Knicks are one of the teams interested in Derrick Rose, as we passed along on Tuesday, and Marc Berman of the New York Post hears that coach Tom Thibodeau is pushing for the team to trade for the former MVP.
Rose played under Thibs when the two were in Chicago together earlier this decade and then again in Minnesota more recently. Berman adds that New York has yet to speak with Detroit about a trade.
The franchise has no long-term answer at the point guard position and while Rose wouldn’t represent that, he’d be an upgrade on Elfrid Payton, who currently mans the starting spot.
Rose, who turned 32 before the season, will be a free agent this summer and it would be hard to imagine New York trading for him if they didn’t believe they could sign him long-term.
