DeMar DeRozan will be a free agent this offseason and he’s expected to take a “wide open” approach to selecting his next team, per Sam Amick and John Hollinger of The Athletic.
The 31-year-old had a chance to hit free agency last offseason via his player option, though he opted to take the $27.7 million and remain in San Antonio. Had the pandemic not occurred, DeRozan would have tested the market, per the pair of Athletic scribes.
DeRozan was reportedly on the trade block leading up to the deadline, as the Spurs were listening to offers for many of their veterans. Miami was one of the teams with interest in the former Raptor, though it’s unclear whether they maintain that interest after acquiring Victor Oladipo at the deadline.
With many expecting Kawhi Leonard to remain with the Clippers, DeRozan could be the top free-agent wing on the market this offseason.
