While the Hawks are listening to offers for John Collins, they aren’t going to simply give him away. Shams Charania of The Athletic reports that the franchise would only part with Collins if they receive a high, lottery-level pick in return.
The former No. 19 overall pick will be a restricted free agent at the end of the year, though with Atlanta making several splashes on the free-agent market this past summer, it’ll be hard to offer him a lucrative deal.
Collins is making just $4.14 million this season, so fitting him into most teams’ salary cap situation this year won’t be difficult. Navigating whether he’s a long-term fit and worth the Hawks’ asking price is another story.
More NBA Trade Rumors
- Teams are monitoring the progress of Anfernee Simons ahead of the trade deadline, Charania adds in the same piece. Simons has taken on an increased role with the Blazers playing behind Damian Lillard and seeing more time in the guard rotation with C.J. McCollum sitting out because of injury.
- Ira Winderman of the Sun-Sentinel wonders if the Heat should get involved in the Collins sweepstakes. Miami has no long-term fit next to Bam Adebayo in the frontcourt and Collins, with his long-range shooting (career 37.4% from three), would be an ideal fit.
- The Raptors and Cavaliers have engaged in trade talks for Andre Drummond but it’s far from a done deal. Cleveland is searching the market for the best deal, per our own Sam Amico, and other teams, such as the Hornets and Clippers are potentially in the mix.
- Bill Simmons identifies Thaddeus Young and Nikola Vucevic as a pair of trade targets who would help the Celtics (via his latest podcast). Now, Simmons is not reporting anything but rather speculating based on fit, both on the court and salary cap situation. In the same podcast, Kevin O’Connor presents Al Horford as a speculative fit.
