The Houston Rockets were scheduled to interview Dallas Mavericks assistant Stephen Silas a second time for their coaching vacancy on Friday, according to Tim MacMahon of ESPN.
While the news that GM Daryl Morey stepped down became public Thursday, the search has continued with Silas said to be among the finalists. ESPN analyst Jeff Van Gundy and Rockets player development coach John Lucas are reportedly also high on the list.
A frontrunner for the job remains to be determined, though Marc Stein of the New York Times reported Lucas has star guards James Harden and Russell Westbrook in his corner.
It is also believed that Morey is still assisting the coaching search in an advisory role. Rafael Stone has taken over for Morey as Rockets GM.
Silas has been an NBA assistant coach since 2000. Along with the Mavericks, he has worked for the Charlotte Hornets, Golden State Warriors and Cleveland Cavaliers. He also served as a scout for the Washington Wizards during the 2005-06 season.
Silas is the son of former NBA big man and longtime coach Paul Silas.
