The Rockets and DeMarcus Cousins will part ways, per Shams Charania of The Athletic.
Cousins signed with the franchise during the offseason, though that was when the franchise still had James Harden and had lofty goals. Houston is looking to go younger in the frontcourt once Christian Wood returns (Wood recently said he’d be back before the All-Star Break).
The Rockets guaranteed Cousins’ salary on Friday, taking care of the veteran because of the professionalism he displayed during his time in Houston.
Cousins is still expected to start when the Rockets return to action on Monday and continue to play until the team, partially because the team needs someone to play center while Wood is out.
The big man playing for the club even after an agreement on a split is like a couple that decides to breakup but opts to finish out their lease. Rarely does it go smoothly but it appears the two sides in Houston are keeping each other warm just a little bit longer.
