Houston Rockets shooting guard Ben McLemore is drawing interest from several contenders ahead of the March 25 trade deadline, according to Kelly Iko of The Athletic.
The Rockets are believed to be entering full “seller” mode ahead of the deadline, and along with guard Victor Oladipo and forward P.J. Tucker, could explore moving other veterans — such as McLemore.
Iko didn’t specify which teams may have an interest in McLemore, who started to become a regular contributor in Houston after fairly disappointing runs with the Sacramento Kings and Memphis Grizzlies.
The former lottery pick is averaging 6.4 points on 36 percent shooting through the first 25 games this season. He averaged 10.1 points last year, his best since scoring 12.1 points in his second pro year (2014-15).
While McLemore isn’t considered starting material, he may indeed be able to help a contending team with some spot duty off the bench.
Mostly, with the Rockets rebuilding around point guard John Wall, this is likely a good time to use younger players and see what veterans such as McLemore, 28, will bring in return.
