Cleveland Cavaliers center Andre Drummond is the biggest player with the title of Most Likely To Be Moved Before The Trade Deadline, and he’s the biggest in both name recognition and size.
And it appears Drummond could have a new a suitor among those that that have already been mentioned. Per Kevin O’Connor of The Ringer, that potential suitor is the Toronto Raptors, who are now interested in Drummond.
Other reports have mentioned Drummond as a possible target for the Brooklyn Nets. We already know the Nets have an interest in Cavs backup center JaVale McGee, and could ramp up a pursuit of at least McGee as the March 25 trade deadline nears.
League sources have told FortyEightMinutes that the Cavs have not yet made a determination on Drummond one way or the other — and that they have barely discussed next steps involving the veteran big man and his large expiring contract.
But they have lost seven of nine following an 8-7 start, and as things get a little more shaky on the court, a decision on Drummond could suddenly turn into a more pressing matter.
Meanwhile, the Raptors are far from the true Eastern Conference contender they resembled last season, and word is, they may be looking to shake things up in a fairly significant way. Drummond could be a piece to help them get back into contention … or someone who will come off the books should the Raptors look to rebuild.
No matter where he goes or what the Raptors do, the feeling around the league is Drummond won’t be in Cleveland beyond the deadline. So the fact he’s on an opponents radar is only good news for the Cavs, assuming that is indeed the rout they take.
